That's getting into what's happening in the music around you. Barney is the man. Byrd also comes up with some surprisingly cool stuff and gets into it as well
@Leedysgladstones: Charlie Byrd is playing an Ovation classical, probably with the built-in pickup. Notice the "bowl back" made of hard plastic (the same stuff some helicopter blades are made of.... : )
I saw them at Vanderbilt auditorium in the '70s. They performed "Meet The Flintstones" theme from the animated cartoon. Imagine that tune at light speed with each one taking turns soloing over it. Talk about bringing down the house. This is a much more reserved offereing.
@thejazzman8 Can you or anyone help me. I`m trying to trace a guitar composition by Charlie Byrd that I had once and learned but have long since lost and forgotten. Its a very syncopated fast samba in D (not jazz samba). It has the characteristic of having no end but plays in a circle. Ring any bells? I`d love to play it again.
I`ve always had a great fondness for Charlie Byrd ( and later Barney and Herb) as I like to play the classical guitar in a jazz style. I came across a sheet of a Byrd composition and have lost it and totally forgotten how to play it. What makes matters worse is I cant remember the title. It was a really syncopated samba ( not jazz samba) in D. Ring any bells with anybody. I`d just love to play it again ( another characteristic of the tune is it has no end just a constant circle )
Wow. True masters of their art.
pure music...grazie barney, herb and charlie

Alguien sabe como se llama esa melodía
Barney Kessel looks as happy when he sees someone else playing something cool as he does when he does it himself.

Charlie Byrd has the greatest sound ever. I wonder if he rehearsed his solos note-for-note, they are always so perfect.

Lieze Rodrigues
I saw them at a Holiday Inn in Chicago back in the 80's they were great. I imagine they were there because of the NAMM convention in town at the time.

What a shame to put up these tasteful musicians with the inferior sound of a bass guitar!
who is the bassist?
Joe Byrd. Charlie's brother.
